The Last Farewell to Brother Pastor Dr. Ján Greššo

The relatives, representatives of the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession (ECAC) in Slovakia, the representatives of the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, many clergymen and clergywomen, brothers and sisters in Faith from the whole Slovakia gathered on the funeral ceremony of Dr. Ján Greššo, which was held on 23rd February 2013 at 11 o`clock at the Evangelical church on Panenská Street in Bratislava.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Kor. 5, 17) – These were the words from the Holly Bible addressed to the mourning gathering by Brother Senior of Bratislava Seniorate of ECAC Boris Mišina in his funeral sermon. He remembered that Dr. Greššo loved his church congregation and at the Theological Faculty he was like a second father to his students. He was able to speak to highly educated people as well as to the common people. He was an excellent example of tolerance and brotherly attitude.

The presiding pastor of Bratislava Evangelical congregation Martin Šefranko in his funeral oration said that Dr. Greššo was noted for his remarkable diligence at translating the Holly Bible and at numerous activities providing in his congregation and at the Evangelical Theological Faculty, where he taught in the past and so he positively influenced a few generations of future pastors.

The General Bishop of ECAC Miloš Klátik on behalf of the Church and also on behalf of Western and Eastern Districts of ECAC and the Association of Evangelical Clergymen and Clergywomen said the last farewell to Dr. Greššo and inter alia he said:” We are grateful to the Triune Lord God for his blessed life. We thank to Dr. Greššo for the brotherly love, for the real understanding, for his brave and honest work and ministry as an evangelical pastor. We say farewell to the oldest pastor in ministry and we commend him to the Grace of the Lord and the Savior Jesus Christ.“
