Parliamentary Chairman wants to take patronage of the anniversary of evangelical priest

General Bishop Miloš Klátik welcomed at General Bishop´s Office parliamentary chairman of Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, 25th November 2015. The visit of parliamentary chairman was held in connection with 200th anniversary of birth J. M. Hurbana, which will be celebrated in 2017. Pellegrini expressed of questions regarding to financial separation from State and of effect of the church in society.
In 2017 will have passed 200 years since was born one of the most significant personality in history of Slovak nation J. M. Hurban. This anniversary is very good opportunity to remember his remarkable life and work not only in ECAC in Slovakia but also in the whole-national level, especially in the places, which are connected with his life. Pellegrini said: „I wish, as the year 2015 was the Year of Ľudovít Štúr, when we remembered the 200th anniversary of his birth, as well as the year 2017 to be declared as the Year of Jozef Miloslav Hurban. For me as a chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic it is especially important, because Hurban was 1st chairman of the Slovak National Council, and therefore we would like to honor him.“

He emphasized, that he will make an effort to have a central celebrations in Hurban birthplace in Beckov. He added, that „I will be very happy, if we could cooperated with ECAC in Slovakia at this opportunity.“ In connection with some celebrations he purposed to take the patronage over some events and he supported a thought to involve youth into the project.

He answered also on the question regarding to relation church and state. He said: „For me separation church and state is not open and actual theme. We spoke, that church and state should create synergy and partnership. Church must be apolitical, isn´t included into political fights. Then will been supported from State and from public.“ They need to looking for common cooperation in field of social work. An enormous contribution to social field has the ECAC in Slovakia and her purpose-facilities, which create space for disable people, suffer people and elderly. Church plays role also in social field. It is about influencing of awareness and education of society to some higher values.

On the end of his visit General Bishop gave to Parliamentary Chairman Peter Pellegrini Anthology from the Theological Conference of ECAC in Slovakia Ľudovít Štúr and his age. Contribution to Church and Nation, and book A Mighty Fortress, which consist of devotions for every day of new church year 2015-2016.
