The Synod (Convention) Chairmanship called a Synodical Convention of the ECAC in Slovakia to assemble on the 1st and 2nd of July, 2010, in the Evangelical church of the Augsburg Confession in Žilina.

The actual convention business meeting will be preceded by a Memorial Evening, which will be organized in honor of the 400th anniversary of the memorable 1610 Žilina Synod. This celebration will take place on June 30, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the City Theatre in Žilina, which is located in close proximity to the Roman – Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity. 400 years ago, the Laws of the Žilina Synod were approved and the first three superintendents were elected thus establishing the autonomous Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in the region of modern-day Slovakia.

The Chairmanship of the Synodical Convention approved the proposal of the content as well as the schedule for the Synodical Convention and agreed to further arrangements in order to provide for a venerable course of the event. Rainer Stahl, a general secretary of Martin Luther Society (Martin-Luther-Bund) was invited to serve as a preacher of God´s Word, and he gratefully accepted the invitation.

The Chairmanship approved Psalm 68:29b as the Bible text for the 2010 Synodical Convention: “Show us your strength. God, do as you have done before,” which also served as the theme for the Žilina Synod in 1610 and which is included in the page heading of the Laws of the Žilina Synod.

Furthermore, the Chairmanship of the Synodical Convention took time to prepare for elections of the particular legislative bodies and committees of the ECAC, which will take place during the 2010 Synodical Convention
